"Only YOU can prevent forest fires!"

So there is this mountain behind our house. And there is only one way to see if we have really adjusted to living a 9,000+ feet....

We were off on a 2 hour+ journey to the top! Plenty of water and a picnic lunch with our eyes focused on the top.

It looked so much smaller from home?

Halfway.....

A little further....

The top!- or at least as far as our legs could carry us!

The other week there was bad fire on the Mt. As seen here. It was so close to us that ash was blowing in our home.

On the way down we met the man who owned the ridge we hiked. He was 87 years old. Cutest old man of all time! And he was out plowing the field. It is a 2 hour hike for him UP A MOUNTAIN and he carries his lunch and all of his equipment???
In the fire he lost a ton of timber (eucalyptus trees) Trees that he planted over 40 years ago, some when he was a small boy!
All that work, GONE. So he just started over?

Today, Ann and I went and visited some neighbors. A woman with 6 kids, who lives in a 2 room home. She and her kids always have a smile on their face, always so friendly. I really like this family and hope to spend more time with the 2 older girls. We also visited a Ketchwa woman. She is going to make us quilts for our beds. She has sheep, cuts her own wool, dyes it, and weaves it. I can't even make those stupid braided friendship bracelets?? Amazing!

I have so much respect for the people we have met here in our neighborhood. I am excited to hear more of their stories, maybe learn a few things about life.
